GWPS – Extra Curriculum Program Guidelines

Radio Committee

Educational Intent:

The Radio Committee is designed to link to learning undertaken during the Term within the student’s usual classroom program. It will support and extend student learning across a number of curriculum areas, building on their speaking and listening skills, writing and communication skills, and digital technology capabilities. All lessons are timetabled within the regular school timetable.

What is the Radio Committee?

As DJ’s for GWPS FM, students on the Radio Committee plan, script, and deliver daily morning broadcasts across the school community, create special extended broadcasts throughout the year that link to cultural, community, and school events. They learn the ‘ins and outs’ of broadcasting through operating the mixing desk, expand their ability to record and edit effective audio using GarageBand, understand how to manipulate their voice to add ‘personality’ to their broadcasts, and explore how to build an authentic audience through creating engaging radio content.

Who Can Join?

Due to popular demand, the Radio Committee in 2018 will be comprised of Year 6 students only. However in Term 4, Year 5 students who wish to be involved with the Radio Committee in 2019 will be mentored and ‘trained’ by the current Year 6 members to help set them up for success the following year.

Selection Criteria:

To apply for the Radio Committee, students respond to an online application form that outlines their reasons for wanting to join, the skills they wish to build on through their participation in the program, and any previous experience they may have had in broadcasting.

The application form is found at the following link: Radio Committee Application
